Are you a qualified dentist looking for an opportunity to build your professional career in Europe? Denmark could be a destination worth exploring.

For internationally educated dentists, working in Denmark is not simply a matter of finding a dental job and relocating. Dentistry is a regulated healthcare profession in Denmark, and foreign-qualified dentists must obtain the required Danish authorization before they can practise as dentists.

At Green Peaks Holidays, our Denmark Dentist Authorization Programme is designed to help eligible dentists understand this pathway and prepare for the different stages involved.

Why Consider Denmark as a Dentist?

Denmark is known internationally for its high standards of healthcare, quality of life and structured professional environment. For a dentist who is ready to learn a new language, adapt to a different healthcare system and complete the required authorization process, Denmark can offer an exciting long-term professional direction.

However, candidates should understand one important point from the beginning:

A foreign dental qualification does not automatically give you the right to work as a dentist in Denmark.

Internationally educated dentists must follow the authorization procedure applicable to their education and nationality.

How Does the Denmark Dentist Authorization Process Work?

For dentists educated outside the EU/EEA, the journey generally begins with an assessment of their dental qualifications by the relevant Danish authority.

The process can involve:

Application and assessment of dental qualifications
Your education and supporting documents must be submitted for assessment to determine whether your dental education meets the required standards.
Danish language proficiency
Communication is extremely important in healthcare. Dentists following the non-EU authorization route are generally required to meet the specified Danish-language requirement.
Professional dental examinations
Eligible applicants may need to complete the required professional examinations to demonstrate the theoretical and clinical knowledge expected of dentists in Denmark.
Danish healthcare legislation
Candidates may also need to complete the required course relating to Danish health legislation.
Employment for adaptation and training purposes
A practical employment/evaluation stage may form part of the authorization process. During this period, professional and clinical competencies can be assessed in a Danish healthcare setting.
Final authorization
Once all applicable requirements have been successfully fulfilled and approved by the authorities, the candidate may proceed towards obtaining Danish authorization.

Who Can Explore This Programme?

The programme may be relevant for qualified dentists who:

Hold a recognized dental qualification such as BDS or an equivalent degree
Are serious about developing a professional career in Denmark
Are prepared to learn Danish
Are willing to complete the required examinations and authorization stages
Can provide the necessary academic and professional documentation
Are prepared for a process that may take considerable time

Eligibility and the exact authorization route depend on each applicant's education, nationality, professional history and individual assessment by the Danish authorities.

Is Danish Language Important?

Absolutely.

Dentistry is not only about clinical expertise. Dentists must communicate clearly with patients, parents, colleagues and other healthcare professionals.

Learning Danish should therefore be considered a central part of the professional journey rather than simply another examination requirement.

Candidates who start their language preparation seriously and consistently can be better prepared for the later stages of the authorization pathway.

Documents You May Need to Prepare

The exact documentation required can vary according to the applicant, but dentists should be prepared to organize documents relating to their identity, dental education, academic qualifications and professional history.

Candidates who completed their basic dental education more than six years before submitting a fully documented application should pay particular attention to Denmark's current rules regarding recent professional experience.

Documentation should be prepared carefully because incomplete or incorrect submissions can affect the processing of an application.

How Green Peaks Holidays Can Support Your Journey

An international professional pathway can become confusing when candidates are dealing with documentation, authorization procedures, language preparation and relocation planning at the same time.

The Green Peaks Holidays Denmark Dentist Authorization Programme aims to provide structured guidance so that candidates can better understand the journey ahead.

Our approach is to help candidates move forward with greater clarity—from understanding the programme and preparing documentation to planning the different stages of their Denmark journey.

Your Dental Qualification Could Open a New International Direction

Moving to another country as a healthcare professional requires patience, preparation and commitment. Denmark's authorization pathway should not be viewed as an instant job or migration route.

Instead, it is a structured professional journey for dentists who are prepared to meet Denmark's regulatory, language and professional requirements.

If you are a qualified dentist and Denmark is part of your international career plan, this could be the right time to understand your eligibility and start preparing.
